Before we get to the character post, I have to give a huge shout out to all the finalists in the RITA and Golden Heart finalists for 2013. Congratulations!!! You can find a list of the finalists here. Congrats to Ms. Kim Law for being a finalist with her novel Sugar Springs. Kim is a member of the Ruby Slippered Sisterhood.
I had so much fun with Jack’s post I decided to let another character take over the blog for the day. I am please to introduce Miss Cailyn Cameron, the heroine of When Love Lingers and best friend to Emma Alexander from When Love Waits. Today, Cailyn is here to show us some of the things she’s come up with to decorate the Alexanders’ Home Away From Home.
Thanks Melanie. It’s been fun decorating the B&B. We’re trying to keep it modern while giving it the feel of a late 19th century mountain home. Mining helped develop the area and we wanted to tie back to that heritage.
These silver trays are an example of what will be on the dresser in every room. There will be a small journal-type book that boarders can leave messages in plus a card offering dry-cleaning or washing services for long term guests. All of the knobs on the dressers have been changed to simple silver pulls to help tie it all together.
This is close to what we achieved in the downstairs bathroom although the walls are a sagey green and the sink area is a little smaller with only one sink, leaving more counter space for guests to set their toiletries while they get ready. The dark wood color is mirrored in the baskets and frames.
For the rooms, we’ll have quilts for the colder months and lighter blankets for the summer. Though the quilts will always be in the rooms either on the beds or on a quilt rack. That way the guests can use them any time. I can’t wait for this thing to be up and running. Surprisingly Kyle has been very helpful getting the work done in time and even helping out with other things.
It’s going to be a lot of work but I think it will be something I enjoy also. And it will give me the opportunity to keep an eye on Grammy while doing something I enjoy. Emma has volunteered to help out, but we’ll see how that goes. I know she won’t want to spend her free weekends working after working all week herself.
I think the place is going to look gorgeous and that you and Emma will get everything situated and ready for guests in no time. You’ve put a lot of work into this.
I have, but it’s been worth every minute spent.
Is there anything you want to tell the readers?
Just to pick up your book to find out what happens between me and that lunkhead Kyle. Also, if they’re ever in the Northern California area to check out the history and maybe come by the B&B and say hello.
Uh, Cailyn, you know Deer Creek is fictional, right?
Not to me, it isn’t. Don’t listen to her folks. If you’re ever in Deer Creek, pop in for a cookie and cup of coffee. Or tea. We’ll have both.
(laughing) I give up. 🙂 Thanks for taking time out of your work to come talk with us Cailyn.
No problem. I better get back to make sure Kyle’s crew haven’t accidentally cut an extra hole in the wall or something.
Thanks for stopping by and everyone have a Happy Easter.
